What Tim Keller Said About Women’s Roles
Pastor and theologian Tim Keller summarized it this way:
“God forbids one kind of role in the church to women, as He did in Israel. We must not jump from that to forbidding all teaching tasks to women. It is better to say that everything a man who isn’t an elder can do—a woman can do also.”
Three Things Every Woman Should Know
-
God has a calling on your life.
You were not made to sit on the sidelines, make casseroles, and raise kids while others serve. You are not simply your husband’s wife or your children’s mother.
Like Deborah, you have a calling. Rise up and obey it. Get in the fight. -
You are a leader with spiritual authority.
Many women hesitate to lead, believing submission means silence. But Deborah—who was married—led with wisdom and courage.
If God has called you to lead, then lead. -
You can lead while honoring God’s order.
Deborah didn’t subvert God’s design. She respected her husband and stayed within the roles God set, yet she still led boldly.
You don’t have to choose between obedience and influence. Deborah did both—and you can too.
The Church Needs More Deborahs
The church today needs more Deborahs—women who walk closely with God, speak courage into their families, lead with wisdom, and serve the kingdom with bold faith.
We need Deborahs in the home, in ministry, and in society—women who use their God-given gifts to call others to prayer, generosity, and sacrifice.
God is still raising up Deborahs. Will you be one of them?
