A new petition from a group calling itself Liberty United Against Falkirk is calling for Liberty University to shut down the Falkirk Center, a conservative political think tank at the evangelical Christian school in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The board of Trustees for Liberty University announced they asked University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. to take an indefinite leave of absence after he posted an inappropriate picture on his Instagram account.

“The very idea that the Commonwealth of Virginia would sanction a church for having 16 people come to a Palm Sunday service, when I think the church actually seats about 250, was just beyond the pale,” Pence said.

Jerry Falwell Jr. wants Liberty to “become the model for others to follow in the future” by planning to keep the campus open after spring break. Others are pushing back at his logic—including Liberty students.
