Learning from Mistakes in Youth Ministry (cont.)
3. You don’t take the time to learn.
We automatically learn from simple mistakes. For example, after burning your mouth on hot pizza once, you learn to dig in more carefully. But we need time to learn from more complex mistakes. Learning experiences don’t just happen by themselves. You need to make a deliberate effort.
Reflection is key. Analyze what went wrong and study the cause-and-effect chain. Create a helicopter view to assemble the whole puzzle. Only then can you identify where you went wrong (or where others made mistakes) and brainstorm preventative changes.
So step back and ask yourself: Are you really learning from mistakes? Or do you make the same kind over and over? If so, take time to examine your attitude and discover the obstacles.
How are you at learning from mistakes? What advice can you offer?
