Insights on Youth and Ministry (cont.)

Encouragement for Young Servants of Jesus

Teenagers sometimes doubt whether they can make a difference. They may feel too young, inexperienced, or unqualified. Yet Scripture repeatedly shows that God uses young people in mighty ways:

  • David was a shepherd boy when he faced Goliath with unshakable faith (1 Samuel 17).
  • God trusted Mary, a young teenager, to bear and raise his Son (Luke 1:26-38).
  • Paul encouraged Timothy, a young church leader: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers…” (1 Timothy 4:12).

Jesus welcomed and valued kids, saying, “Let the little children come to me” (Matthew 19:14). Age is never a barrier to being the hands and feet of Christ!

Practical Tips for Youth in Ministry

Share these insights with teens in your church’s youth ministry program.

1. Start small.

First, realize you don’t need a grand plan to serve. Begin with one kind act. Help a neighbor or pray for a friend. Then watch how God multiplies your efforts.

2. Use your gifts.

God gave you talents for a reason. Whether it’s music, art, sports, or leadership, find ways to serve that fit what you love and do well.

3. Work with others.

Service is more fun when shared. So invite friends, siblings, or mentors to join you.

4. Stay humble.

Service is about love, not recognition. Do everything as if serving Jesus himself (Colossians 3:23-24).

5. Pray for guidance.

Next up: Ask God to show you what people need most. Pray for courage and compassion as you serve.

6. Seek mentorship.

Learn from older Christians who have experience serving. They can guide you and help you grow in faith and leadership.

7. Reflect on the impact.

After a project, take time to thank God. Share what you learned and celebrate how you touched lives.

Teenagers are an essential part of the church’s present-day mission. By combining youth and ministry, churches meet real needs and nurture servant leaders. Through their compassion and willingness to act, teens transform churches and communities for Christ.

Jesus knows that youth and ministry are a powerful pair. Kids excel at powerful, Spirit-led service that builds up God’s kingdom.
