Jessa Duggar Seewald and her husband, Ben, have revealed the name they chose for their new baby. Their sixth child, born July 26, is named Edward Owen Seewald.
“The kids are very excited. They were rooting for Edward,” Jessa said in a video where the couple revealed the name, which they settled on five days after the baby was born.
“Sometimes, you just got to like, see their face, y’know, maybe even test some names out for a few days,” said Ben.

Jessa Duggar Seewald is the fifth child of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, whose family was featured on the reality show “19 Kids and Counting.” Jessa also appeared in the spinoff “Counting On.” Her new son is her parents’ 39th grandchild.
The Seewalds welcomed their sixth child into the world after Jessa had a seven-and-a-half hour-long labor. She had a frightening experience when, after her water broke, she saw a large blood clot. “That really scared me,” she said.

Jessa described the ensuing ride to the hospital as “the longest 15 minutes of my life.” The baby, however, was ok. Once she arrived at the hospital, the medical staff found a strong heartbeat.
In a previous video, the Seewalds revealed that their new baby is a boy and shared their favorite choices for names. For first names, they liked Edward (for King Edward VI of England and Jonathan Edwards), Owen (for Puritan John Owen), and Calvin (for theologian John Calvin).
Middle names they liked were Patrick (for St. Patrick of Ireland) and Athanasius. Athanasius is the early church father who defended Jesus’ divinity against the heresy of Arianism.
The Seewalds’ latest video shows the couple leaving the hospital without naming their son. Jessa was on pain meds for afterbirth cramps and Ben joked that she was hesitant to choose a name while she was “not thinking as clearly as she could, I guess.”
She chuckled and said, “That’s true.”
