Courtney Copeland Acuña, granddaughter of televangelist and prosperity preacher Kenneth Copeland, responded to criticisms of her grandfather in an interview where she said that her family does not identify with the “prosperity gospel.” In that interview, Acuña claimed that the idea of reaping money from sowing money is biblical and is the same as the worldly ideas of karma or the Law of Attraction.

“The Bible calls it sowing and reaping. The Bible says, ‘Whatsoever you sow you shall reap,’” Acuña said to Yanina Oyarzo, host of the “Similarly Different” podcast in an interview Oct. 27. The two women are friends, and Acuña is the producer of Oyarzo’s podcast.

“The world calls it karma. The world calls it Law of Attraction,” said Acuña. “But when you say, ‘If you sow money, you’ll reap money,’ and you’re a Christian, the world wants to call it the ‘prosperity gospel.’ But the world literally lives their life that way.”

“People want to talk karma all day long, like, ‘Oh, what goes around comes around,’” Acuña added. “It’s like, we believe that too. If you sow hate, you’re going to reap hate.”

Courtney Copeland Acuña Addresses Family Controversies

Courtney Copeland Acuña is the granddaughter of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland. According to her LinkedIn profile, she is a co-founder and CEO of You and Me Media, “a podcast company that produces and distributes high level content for clients.” She is currently the chief marketing officer (CMO) for Kenneth Copeland Ministries (KCM). In an update on LinkedIn three months ago, Acuña said, “Little (big) life update: I’m back where I was born to be.”

“Never in a million years did I think I would rejoin my KCM family on staff,” she said. “Supporting KC as a granddaughter has been every grandkid’s dream come true.. but now I’m back on staff working for him as cmo and it couldn’t feel more right.”

Kenneth Copeland is a controversial figure who has received criticism for his opulent lifestyle and various comments he has made, such as when he told a reporter that Scripture supports him being a “very wealthy man.” While speaking to fellow televangelist and private jet owner Jesse Duplantis, Copeland referred to commercial airplanes as “long [tubes] with a bunch of demons.”

In December 2022, Copeland said he would never contract COVID-19 because of his faith in Jesus. Last year, the prosperity preacher predicted the date of his own death, saying it would occur on Dec. 6, 2056.

Acuña said her grandfather is a barrier-breaker in culture but is known by many as a “crazy preacher” or the “most wealthy pastor in America.”

Oyarzo described her loyalty to Acuña as a friend and her frustration at people expressing opinions about the Copelands but not giving Acuña the chance to share her perspective. As Oyarzo did so, Acuña was moved to tears.
