Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving was not only back on the field recently after several weeks on the injured list but he also celebrated taking a big step in his own faith. This past Sunday, Dec. 7, he was baptized and joyfully expressed his newfound faith.

“Thank you, Lord, I’m here,” said Irving.

After finishing his rookie season with 207 carries for 1,122 rushing yards, running back Bucky Irving also started his 2025 season strong. By Week 4, Irving gained 237 yards and two touchdowns—and serious injuries.

These injuries sidelined the player for several weeks, but he returned on Nov. 30 for the game against the Cardinals. It was during this game that Irving and Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield celebrated a 13-yard touchdown, resulting in a fine.

“BREAKING: The NFL fined Baker Mayfield $14,491 and Bucky Irving $6,349 for their ‘nose wipe’ celebration during last Sunday’s game vs. Cardinals, deeming them ‘violent gestures,'” said Football Forever.

The NFL added “nose wipe” celebrations to its growing list of banned celebrations during the offseason. The league has cracked down on how players can celebrate appropriately, much to fans’ disapproval. Irving seemed to accept the consequence.

“I’ve been doubted my whole life,” Irving said in a video. “People say I’m too small.”

Irving chose to cling to Philippians 4:13, which is listed on his Instagram profile. That verse says, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

In high school, Irving began as a quarterback and then a receiver. When his coach put him in as a running back, Irving ran the ball 90 yards. He’s been a running back ever since.

Irving’s love of football comes through every practice and every game. After he was injured—and sidelined—during Week 4 against the Eagles, Irving struggled with being on the bench for multiple games.
