Christian worship artist Cory Asbury, who is known for his Grammy-nominated song “Reckless Love,” recently said that “everyone knew” about the allegations against Michael Tait, just not specific details.
Tait, who gained notoriety with the Christian band DC Talk and later became the frontman for Newsboys from 2009-2025, has been accused of grooming, sexually assaulting, and drugging young men—including minors.
In a statement released on June 10, Tait admitted to drug and alcohol abuse and “sexual activity.”
Tait said that “recent reports of my reckless and destructive behavior, including drug and alcohol abuse and sexual activity are sadly, largely true,” and admitted that “for some two decades I used and abused cocaine, consumed far too much alcohol, and, at times, touched men in an unwanted sensual way.”
Just days after Tait confessed to claims that were published by The Roys Report, The Guardian released an article citing new allegations from more survivors who claim that Tait drugged them before sexually assaulting them. The Guardian’s report also claimed that two of Tait’s alleged victims were under the age of 18.
Asbury weighed in with his thoughts after someone on social media asked him, “Did you hear/know about Michael Tait before the story was published?”
Asbury responded, “Everyone knew. Maybe not the specific details, but everyone knew.”
Another person asked, “How many ‘Christian’ bands/artists are living a double life like Michael Tait and NTB [NEEDTOBREATHE]?”
The worship singer simply replied, “A lot.”
Christian apologist Mike Winger later posted Asbury’s responses on X.
