Last week, The Guardian released a new findings regarding the alleged sexual misconduct of former Newsboys singer and DC Talk member Michael Tait.

Editor’s note: This article refers to reports of alleged sexual assault that some readers might find triggering and/or disturbing.

In a recent report, The Guardian provided testimony from two survivors, one of whom was a minor, and both survivors allege they were drugged and sexually abused by Tait.

A third person alleges Tait drugged him and groped him, years later propositioning him with $5,000 in cash.

A fourth person alleges Tait exposed himself to him when that person was 12.

Less than a week after allegations against the “Jesus Freak” singer were made public, Tait issued a statement on social media admitting to drug and alcohol abuse and “sexual activity” over the last two decades.

Tait said that he makes “no excuses” for his actions and explained that “while I might dispute certain details in the accusations against me, I do not dispute the substance of them.”

Prior to The Guardian’s report, none of Tait’s alleged victims were known to be minors at the time of the alleged abuse.

Shawn Davis, a business owner in Nashville, Tennessee, told The Guardian that he was sexually abused by Tait when Davis was 17 years old. Like others who have reported sexual misconduct allegations against Tait, Davis looked up to Tait as one of his heroes.

While at a party in 2003, Davis, who was 16 at the time, was introduced to the 37-year-old Tait by a mutual friend. Davis told The Guardian that Tait got his number and reached out to Davis a few days later, requesting to hang out.

Davis said that Tait “destroyed my life” and is publicly claiming that the former DC Talk star introduced him to cocaine and encouraged him to consume alcohol. Davis alleges that on one occasion in 2003, while at Tait’s residence, Tait spiked the minor’s drink with something that made Davis lose consciousness and sexually abused Davis.
