Living and working in Hollywood for more than 30 years, I was thinking recently about the number of creative and media professionals I regularly meet who got their start working for a local church. 

If the last two decades have taught us anything (including the pandemic), churches must balance attracting unbelievers and engaging a discipleship pathway of surrender. The whole Gospel requires both.

We all have personality traits that are good and bad, and it’s important that we make the effort to control the traits that are potentially damaging to our leadership.

What if every leader improved by just 1% in what they do every year? Imagine how that could change the trajectory of a life over time. Let me encourage you to do whatever it takes to become better at what you do.

Jesus illustrates to us how we can best effect durable learning by better preaching. But ultimately it requires a learner’s active engagement and God’s work to effect transformation.

We can end the debate about which will come true—Orwell’s "1984" or Huxley’s "Brave New World."

Can you recognize spiritual abuse in the church? Often, you don’t realize you’re in a situation until your health is damaged, your soul is torn or your outside relationships suffer.

If we let a church die and go out of business, then bring a new group into the building and start afresh with something different, that's not the way to revitalize anything. We have held a funeral and then birthed a new flock.
