In 2020, Kirk contacted Turek, asking the apologist to mentor him on faith issues. “It could be very hard to mentor someone who’s smarter than you,” Turek explained. “But it wasn’t hard to mentor Charlie, because his intellect was only surpassed by his humility.”

Turek, who said Kirk “was martyred for his bold faith in Christ,” shared a list of reasons Kirk was Christlike. First, the slain activist was “all about Jesus,” staying grounded in prayer and requesting only Bible-based answers to tough questions. Kirk also refused donations from people who wanted him to keep “the Jesus stuff” out of his messaging, the apologist said.

Next, Turek emphasized his friend’s love of family, saying Kirk “wanted people to understand the beauty of marriage.” Kirk’s upcoming book “Stop, in the Name of God” is about honoring the Sabbath together as a family.

Kirk was courageous and “didn’t really like the word ‘safe,’” Turek said. “[Charlie] knew that ministry required you to take risks, just like love requires you to take risks.” The day before he was killed, Kirk texted Turek and other team members 1 Corinthians 16:9, which mentions “there are many adversaries.”

In addition, Turek said Kirk “wasn’t afraid to be politically incorrect, to say something true that no one else would risk saying, even if it meant his opponents would twist and attempt to smear his reputation.” As an example, Turek mentioned civil rights legislation, which “though well-intentioned…made [Americans] more race-focused rather than less…[The legislation] did some good things, but it created more division.”

Other descriptions Turek used for Kirk were humble, brilliant, a coalition builder, hardworking, someone who “loved young people,” kind, graceful, loyal, someone who “built people up,” and someone who “maintained his integrity in the face of temptation.”

Kirk realized, “You need to love people by tactfully telling them the truth,” Turek explained. “You don’t love people by enabling their continued rebellion against the God of the universe.”

Frank Tureks Eyewitness Account of Charlie Kirk Assassination

Apologist Frank Turek concluded his Sept. 16 video by recounting “that terrible Wednesday, Sept. 10.” While looking at drone footage of the UVU campus on Charlie Kirk’s phone, Turek said, “Charlie, I don’t like this place. There are too many buildings.” Kirk brushed that off, the apologist said, because security was in place.

Turek was throwing hats to crowd members and FaceTiming his family from the Utah event, he said. After hearing a pop that “sounded like it was close,” he ducked. Then Turek ran with Kirk’s security team as they carried the wounded activist to an SUV.
