Is “Jesus” getting married? That’s what Jonathan Roumie’s social media followers might have thought on Sunday (Nov. 16) after the actor posted a cryptic message featuring a ring.

Roumie, who plays Jesus on the hit TV series “The Chosen,” held up a velvet box in the post. “We did a thing,” he wrote in the caption. “Ending the year in style! Can’t wait to share more soooon.” Roumie included hashtags such as #ringgoals, #surprisesurprise, and #staycalm.

By the next morning, that post had more than 290,000 likes, with comments such as “Who is that happy girl?” and “Jesus, your bride is ready.”

But on Monday, Roumie ended the suspense, revealing his ongoing partnership with the Hallow prayer app. “You waited long enough, but today, my [secret is] finally out!” he posted. “SEE the thing *we did*… And then join me (and a bunch of other awesome voices)- Starting December 1st!! One hashtag Roumie added to that post read “#HeadedToConfession.”

In a video accompanying his Nov. 17 reveal, Jonathan Roumie said, “Every Christmas we get slammed with ads for ‘A ring for your loved one. The perfect way to say…’” He then snapped the velvet box shut. “This is not that ad,” he explained, tossing aside the ring box.

“Because it’s not really what this season is about,” Roumie continued. Christmas is “not about the craziness or the shopping or the gifts. It’s about Jesus. It’s about prayer. Join me in praying every day this Advent on Hallow. God bless.”

Roumie, 51, is single—despite online rumors to the contrary. “According to the internet, I’m married to a woman named Diane in Canada,” he previously said. “I don’t know who that person is. Apparently, we have a child I haven’t met. So yeah, none of that’s true.”

The actor added, “I’m not married to anyone. I’m certainly not married to Diane—though I’m sure she’s lovely.”
