New York Times best-selling author Lee Strobel shared that Hobby Lobby has purchased half a million copies of his book “The Case for Christmas” to give away at stores.

Once an atheist, the former Chicago Tribune legal editor became a Christian in 1981 after investigating the evidence of Christianity and Jesus’ claims that he is the Son of God.

“People are sending me photos of the Free Gift they received from Hobby Lobby after shopping there—my new book ‘The Case for Christmas,’” Strobel posted on social media. “Hobby Lobby is giving away half a million free copies to customers at their stores! I’m praying God uses them to point people to Himself!”

Strobel originally released “The Case for Christmas: A Journalist Investigates the Identity of the Child in the Manger” in 2005, but he released a revised and updated edition this past September.

A summary for the book reads:

Who was in the manger that first Christmas morning? And how can we know for sure? In this completely revised and updated edition of The Case for Christmas—reflecting the latest scholarship and research—award-winning legal journalist Lee Strobel weighs the evidence to distinguish myth from truth about what happened in Bethlehem.

What can we know about the events of Christmas morning? And, most importantly, who was born that day? Some say the newborn baby would become a great moral leader. Others, a social critic. Still others view Jesus as a profound philosopher, a rabbi, a feminist, a prophet, and more. Many are convinced he was the divine Son of God. But who was he really—and how can we know for sure?

Evaluating and organizing the biblical, historical, and textual evidence, Strobel searches out the true identity of the child in the manger, analyzing:

-The latest, most up-to-date scholarship and research
-The historical reliability of the accounts of Jesus’s birth
-The evidence for the virgin birth
-The array of Old Testament prophecies fulfilled by the birth of Jesus
-The most common questions about the story of Christmas

On Dec. 6, Strobel posted, “Hobby Lobby stores nationwide are giving away FREE copies of my new book The Case for Christmas to customers as long as the half million copies last! On Saturday, Leslie and I visited their store in Paducah, KY and met wonderful people.”
