Author and podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey wrote, “With Trump, you could either get a really sweet, compassionate moment like when he heard that RBG, who hated him, died, or you could get the kind of post he put out about Rob Reiner. Hard to ever know what to expect.” She added, “I really appreciated Reiner’s kind words when Charlie was murdered. What a tragedy for his family. May they be comforted and may justice be swift.”
Christianity Today’s Mike Cosper shared that he wasn’t surprised by Trump’s post. “There is zero that is shocking or surprising in Trump’s pathologically narcissistic and petty tweet about Rob Reiner,” Cosper wrote.
“This is who the man has been in public for decades. All grudges. All vendettas. It’s a joke that anyone would pretend otherwise. Trump has no political ideology. He is a creature of whim and will,” Cosper continued. “War today, peace tomorrow, tariffs today, free trade tomorrow. He would throw his mother under a bus if he thought his fans would like it.”
Cosper added, “So of course he finds a moment when Rob Reiner is tragically murdered and makes it about himself. Because that is his id. Trump’s ideology is Trump. And if you’re just waking up to that, congratulations. But some of us have been saying this for a decade.”
Pastor Mike Stone posted, “Sadly, @realDonaldTrump has a case of his own TDS. His post about the Reiner murders shows clear and unequivocal evidence of Trump Depravity Syndrome.”
Influencer Jon Root called Trump’s response “vile” and said, “Rob Reiner was an enemy of Trump, said many awful things about him, but there’s no justification to stomp on someone’s grave like this.”
Andrew T. Walker, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary professor and managing editor of WORLD Opinions, said, “This is a really disgusting comment, and beneath even the rhetoric we have come to expect from President Trump. The murder of human beings is no occasion for narcissism.”
Denny Burk, professor of biblical studies at Boyce College and associate pastor at Kenwood Baptist Church, posted, “This is vain, petty, vindictive, and corrupt. It’s grievous beyond words that this kind of rhetoric has become the norm from the President. But this one is a special kind of ugly.” Burk added, “A father and a mother allegedly murdered by their son, and the president responds by airing his personal grievances and by grandstanding about his achievements as president. Unbelievable.”
Influencer and podcaster Sage Steele called Trump’s comment “disappointing” and said it was “so unnecessary. It’s comments like this that take away from the countless great things @realDonaldTrump does for America.”
