During a shooting spree in northeast Mississippi Friday night (Jan. 9), six people were shot and killed—including a pastor and a 7-year-old girl. Authorities arrested 24-year-old Daricka M. Moore and allege that he gunned down the victims—including four family members—in three different locations.

At a press conference Saturday, Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said the communities of West Point and Cedar Bluff have been “really really shaken” by the senseless loss of life. “It was really hard to have conversations other than prayers with everybody out there,” he said of meeting with survivors and community members.

Suspect Allegedly Killed 6, Including Beloved Mississippi Pastor

Friday night’s rampage began at a mobile home in rural northeast Mississippi. There, law enforcement officials said, Daricka Moore allegedly shot and killed his father, Glenn Moore (67); his brother, Quinton Moore (33); and his uncle, Willie Ed Guines (55).

Moore then drove his brother’s truck to a cousin’s house, authorities said. He allegedly broke in, attempted to commit sexual battery, and then shot and killed his 7-year-old second cousin, identified as Mikiylia Guines.

Mikiylia’s mother and two other children were present, according to Scott. After Mikiylia was killed, Moore allegedly pointed a gun at another child, who was not shot—but the gun may have misfired, the sheriff said. “That’s how violent it was,” he added.

Moore’s final stop, according to authorities, was the Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus in Cedar Bluff, Mississippi—which some of his family members attended. Sheriff Scott said Moore allegedly broke into a residence there and killed the Rev. Barry Bradley and his brother, Samuel Bradley. The men, whose ages weren’t provided, reside elsewhere during the week, Scott said, but live at the church grounds on weekends.

On its Facebook page, the Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus declares that it is “a church with a purpose and a pastor with a vision.”
