On Truth Social, President Trump called Jackson “a good man” and “a force of nature” who “truly loved people.” Trump said he had helped Jackson by providing office space for the Rainbow Coalition and by signing criminal justice reform.
Former President Barack Obama called Jackson “a true giant,” adding, “we stood on his shoulders.”
Bernice King, daughter of MLK Jr., said Jackson “devoted his life to lifting people in poverty, the marginalized, and those pushed to society’s edges.” She expressed gratitude for “a life that pushed hope into weary places” and encouraged people to honor Jackson’s legacy by “widening opportunity, uplifting the vulnerable, and building the Beloved Community.”
Bishop Robert Barron, a Catholic theologian, said although he differed with Jackson on several issues, he admired the leader for “consistently [advocating] for the transformative power of non-violence.” Jackson, Barron added, “knew that government programs were never sufficient for the lifting up of the black community; what was especially needed was the shaping of character.”
