Antisemitism Is a ‘Mind Virus’—Hugh Hewitt on the Importance of Being Pro-Israel

Hugh Hewitt described President Donald Trump as “unique” and a challenging person to interview, adding, “I think he lost in 2020.” Although the broadcaster initially thought Trump lacked “the temperament to be president,” he praised Trump for being the “great hope” of the Jewish people. “He won’t let anyone speak ill of the Jews,” Hewitt said, adding that Trump is the only U.S. leader willing to “take on Iran.”

When asked for political predictions, Hewitt said, “I’m not an optimist about the midterms,” referencing the November 2026 elections. Republicans will “lose the [U.S.] House for sure,” he said. Hewitt is “hopeful about the Senate, especially if the [Iran] war is over by June.” But if Republicans do lose the Senate, he added, they “won’t get another judge.”

Because Hewitt often moderates presidential debates—an experience he compared to “being dropped onto a different planet”—he didn’t endorse a Republican candidate for 2028. He did, however, note that Vice President J.D. Vance has spent just three years in public office. And he called U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio “smart, quick, and as eloquent as Ronald Reagan.”

Hewitt also referenced the “great Supreme Court” that’s now in place, saying the three Trump-appointed justices “changed everything.” In fact, Hewitt said he needs to revamp his law-school class about the Supreme Court due to all the activity in the post-Roe era.
