Raye Is Grateful for Her Faith

Earlier this year, Raye won her first Grammy Award, as well as the Harry Belafonte Best Song for Social Change Award, for the single “Ice Cream Man.” In that song, which contains explicit lyrics, Raye sings about her strength as a survivor of sexual assault. Her song “Escapism” addresses unhealthy ways of coping with heartbreak, including sleeping around.

Two years ago, after being nominated for a record seven Brit awards, Raye addressed the power of faith and forgiveness. “If I didn’t find faith again, I might not even be here,” she said. “There’s a lot of demons trying to claw at you…so I’m really grateful I have this faith. It’s honestly pulled me out of a really dark place.”

When asked what songs have shaped her, Raye mentioned “You’re Bigger” by gospel artist Jekalyn Carr.
