Evangelist Bryce Crawford Shares His Testimony

After hearing Marina Lacerda’s story, Bryce Crawford asked about her faith life. The abuse survivor said she believes that God is with her all the time but that she doesn’t “need to go to church…to have faith in him.”

Lacerda, who said she often asked God, “Why me?” and “What did I do wrong?” added, “I feel like if you don’t cause any harm to anybody, you should be okay in life.” She expressed curiosity about the afterlife but admitted she doesn’t know much about Jesus or the Bible.

That’s when Crawford shared his testimony, emphasizing that people don’t have to “fix” themselves before turning to God. “It’s actually the total opposite,” said Crawford. “Jesus loves the most broken version of myself.”

The young evangelist spoke about the beauty of trusting Jesus to know what’s best for you and to be the Lord of your life. He told Lacerda, who’s now a single mom, that he hopes and prays that “maybe Jesus can come into your life.” Crawford assured her that hypocrisy isn’t “the heart of God” but that God is “so full of hope and love.”

After indicating that she understands some biblical concepts to an extent, Lacerda told Crawford, “Maybe one day I’ll come to your Bible study” in Los Angeles.

Through her nonprofit, Lacerda aims to change the mindsets and conditions in Brazilian slums. There, some “mothers sell their daughters to politicians,” she said, and rape is a daily occurrence. “The human trafficking [is] really insane,” she told Crawford and his listeners.

Crawford, who said he admires Lacerda and her efforts, asked if he could pray for her. Before he did so, Lacerda asked if there was a correct way to pray.

“I don’t think there is,” said Crawford. “I always just like to thank God for who he is and thank him for everything he’s done and then glorify him, make our requests known to him.” There’s no formula, the evangelist added, saying we can just talk to Jesus like a friend.

In his prayer, Crawford thanked God for his Word and Jesus for his death and resurrection. He closed by asking God to protect, guide, and bless Lacerda and her work.
