When creating the report, said the ICC, “ICC staff—including 25 stationed overseas—conducted numerous interviews with victims of persecution and their contacts in the world’s trouble spots. ICC’s 10 analysts in Washington, D.C. provided their expertise to the comprehensive document.”
When asked about the decision to give “awards” to the world’s worst persecutors in contrast to simply listing them as Open Doors does in its World Watch List, an ICC spokesperson told ChurchLeaders, “Obviously, it’s a dubious award. Making the list or receiving the top distinction is nothing to be proud of as the (dis)honorees are accused of great atrocities against Christians.”
