Not a ‘Religious Person’: Jerry Falwell Jr. on His Dramatic Fall From Grace

His treatment by the evangelical world, Falwell says, has turned him off from the church as an institution. “Nothing in history has done more to turn people away from Christianity than organized religion,” he tells Vanity Fair. “The religious elite has got this idea that somehow their sins aren’t as bad as everybody else’s.”

Falwell also reveals suspicion that evangelist Franklin Graham worked to gain more influence at Liberty due to the scandal. Falwell claims Graham told him he’d “never be anything in evangelical circles again.” Graham had no comment.
