Johnny Hunt Resigns as NAMB VP of Evangelism; Guidepost Report Alleges He Sexually Abused a Pastor’s Wife

The pastor’s wife recalled “Hunt shifting the conversation from ministry to flattery about her appearance, her clothing, and her perfume.” After Hunt commented that he was hot from the sun, she invited him to sit on her balcony where there was more shade. She had assumed Hunt’s family was just inside.

Hunt then walked through her condo to her balcony, where they continued their conversation. During the conversation Hunt asked the pastor’s wife if she felt safe. Not knowing why he was asking, she replied that she did.

According to the pastor’s wife, Hunt then told her to put her feet on his knee, which she did, and Hunt touched them while commenting on their beauty and size.

The former SBC president then suggested they go inside, because he was uncomfortable and didn’t want to be seen by anyone. So they moved into the living room of her condo.

While she was sharing a story about the stress of church leadership, the pastor’s wife said that Hunt moved closer to where she was sitting. Hunt then asked her personal questions. For instance, he asked if she’d “ever done anything like this before” and was she “wild growing up?”

The pastor’s wife reported being confused by the questions. Hunt moved even closer to her, pulled her shorts down, and turned her over so he could “stare at her bare backside.”

Hunt then proceeded to make sexual remarks and told her things he had previously imagined about her. The pastor’s wife recalled that she froze and said that those “were some of the longest moments of her life.”

After turning back around, she then pulled up her shorts. That’s when Hunt “pinned her to the couch and got on top of her and pulled up her shirt,” proceeding to sexually assault her with his hands and mouth.

“Suddenly,” the report says, “Hunt stopped and then stood up. Survivor (pastor’s wife) pulled down her shirt. Survivor said she did not want him to ruin his ministry, at which he responded he did not want to ruin hers. But he then forced himself on her again by groping her, trying to pull her shirt down, and violently kissing her. Survivor did not reciprocate, but rather stood eyes open and very stiff, hoping he would just stop and leave. He finally stopped and left.”

The pastor’s wife locked the door after he left and shared that she felt “very shocked, confused, and violated.”
