DC Talk’s Kevin Max Tweets Support for Pride Month, Daughter Who Is Gay

The father of four children, whom he shares with is wife Amanda, followed up his tweet by describing his daughter as an “activist, hippie-cool, empathetic, beautiful, loves nature and animals in a poetic way and a prolific painter.”

In response to the tweet, Christian band Hawk Nelson’s former lead singer, Jon Steingard, who announced his departure from Christianity in 2020, told Max, “I love how well you love your family.”

“Thank you Jon,” Max wrote back. “It’s easy to love your own offspring but we are learning to love others just as well outside of our own tight knit family of misfits and dreamers.”

One of Max’s many followers thanked him for his statement and shared, “You and your music have inspired me for years and this makes me love you even more.”

Another praised Kevin Max for his parenting skills, telling him, “[Explicative] yeah, now this is good parenting in action.”

Max has also been a big supporter of Semler, an outspoken LGBTQ musician who has taken over the #1 spot on the Christian iTunes charts more than once in the past couple of years.

“Excited for you and for this breakthrough @GraceBaldridge … it’s high time christian music got a shake up with a message of reality & hope beyond the homogenized CCM…kinda historic, definitely amazing,” Max wrote when Semler’s EP reached the top of the charts.

The “Jesus Freak” singer also congratulated Semler after it was announced she was opening for Christian band Relient K early this year, making a suggestion that DC Talk should have her open up for them in the future: “Congrats and based on that notebook a DC Talk tour with you should be next.”
