Video from this week’s arrests show the elder Edwards being removed from the house in a wheelchair. A neighbor who requested anonymity told a local TV station, “I’m glad they got arrested. It’s a long time coming.”
In a courtroom Wednesday, Evan Edwards appeared to be nonverbal and was taken to a medical facility. Josh Edwards was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Other family members were present in court to show support but made no statements. Although Evan Edwards’ wife and daughter are also named in the criminal complaint, charges haven’t been filed against them.
The U.S. Justice Department says it “remains vigilant in detecting, investigating, and prosecuting wrongdoing related to” pandemic relief funds.
