“But because of who this individual is and has been to the body of Christ, it made a little bit more news,” Ross admitted, nevertheless going on to quote Galatians 6:1-3, in which the apostle Paul urges Christians to gently restore those caught in sin.
The “Secrets of Hillsong” trailer featured appearances by Mike Cosper, host of “The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill” podcast, Katelyn Beaty, author of “Celebrities for Jesus: How Personas, Platforms, and Profits Are Hurting the Church,” as well as former leaders and attenders of the church.
“FX’s The Secrets of Hillsong is a four-part documentary series based on the explosive original reporting on the megachurch’s scandals by Vanity Fair journalists Alex French and Dan Adler,” the series’ description reads. “The Secrets of Hillsong goes beyond the sensational headlines and behind the velvet rope to examine the church’s long pattern of covering up misconduct to protect itself.”
The scandal surrounding Lentz’s life and leadership also featured heavily in the Discovery+ docuseries titled “Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed,” which was released in March 2022.
“The Secrets of Hillsong” will be available to stream on Hulu on May 19.
