Stern added, “Members of my own family—who are quite evangelical but also supportive of me—had to sit through this and constantly try to separate their own instinctive protectiveness of their beliefs from their enormous compassion for the survivors in this documentary.”

A separate documentary focusing specifically on Gothard and his alleged abuses, titled “Until the Truth: Life After Abuse,” is currently in the works. The project is being crowdfunded.
“Trauma fragments our ability to think and therefore to hold memory. And while every individual journey of recovery from abuse is unique, there are shared, essential steps that play out over time,” the film’s description reads. “This film explores these stages in depth.”
