The Robertsons credit Jesus with turning their lives around. Kay has shared that as Phil’s drinking grew worse as they were raising their young family, she started praying to God about their problems. She heard the gospel, trusted in God, and she and her children persisted in praying for Phil. He finally had a change of heart, seeking reconciliation with his family and putting his trust in God

“It was important to us that the film be real,” said Willie Robertson in a press release. “The transformation of Phil proves that anyone can change and that there is always hope.”

Willie and his wife, Korie, are among the producers of “The Blind,” which is set to release Sept. 28.

“I love Phil with all my heart,” said Kay in an April 28 Facebook post. “He’s my pioneer man. This is our true story, and now we’re telling it all.”

Clarification: A previous version of this article failed to mention Phil and Kay Robertson’s oldest son, Alan.
