“I’m not speaking only to Christians, I’m not speaking only to people who pray at all,” said the actor. She told her followers that forgiveness is “challenging,” but that it benefits our souls because we can let go of bitterness, which will only harm us if we cling to it. Forgiveness means “truly wishing [the offender] healing and love,” but we don’t have to tell others we’ve forgiven them or let them back into our lives. “It might not be safe,” she said. 

McKellar said that when she struggles with forgiving someone, she imagines that person as a baby or little child, thinking that there must be some love that individual didn’t receive at that age. “That has helped me before.”

We should forgive as we would want to be forgiven, said McKellar. “When you forgive, you feel something change inside of you.”
