Jim Harbaugh, an outspoken Christian and pro-life advocate, described Michigan’s self-imposed suspension in August as “a baseball bat to the kneecaps.” The 59-year-old head coach has denied knowledge of any improper conduct by his program.
With the team’s latest drama, some people are accusing the Wolverines of playing the “victim card.” Sports reporter David Hookstead wrote, “Michigan is acting like they’re being punished for no reason…Jim Harbaugh didn’t die on the beaches of Normandy. He’s suspended because his program was cheating. It’s that cut and dry.”
Meanwhile, a university spokesperson said Michigan is eager to present its case this week, “where we intend to demonstrate that the Big Ten has not acted legally or fairly.” A hearing is scheduled for Friday.
