Fourth of July Parade Participants in Coeur D’Alene Carry Crosses Following Pushback Against Chamber of Commerce

In response to the blowback, the chamber decided on Monday, July 1, to make an exception for religious imagery. IFPC celebrated the news, saying that 2,200 people had reached out via its Action Center and that the reversal showed that “biblical citizenship works.” Various people have reposted the Idaho Tribune’s clip on social media with the caption, “Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, banned crosses for the 4th of July parade; Christians said NO!” 

“This year, we introduced guidelines to ensure we honor America’s military and not open the door to offensive displays. While we understand the significance of various symbols, we intend to keep the parade welcoming for everyone,” said Coppess in her statement. “After consideration and consultation, the executive board of directors has made an exception for the religious symbols.”

“We genuinely desire to create a wonderful family-oriented day in CDA to honor our military and first responders,” she continued. “The original policy was not meant to isolate individuals or be considered an anti-religious policy. We hope parade participants and attendees will gather to safely celebrate our nation’s birthday with kindness and good cheer.”

“Thank you for your understanding and support,” Coppess concluded.
