On Facebook this week, Oates thanked people for their support and prayers. She also asked them to stop “saying bad mean things about my mom” because “she had no idea!” Oates said she herself hid the abuse “with a smile.”
After Bailey’s arrest, his family released a statement, telling Oates they were “all so deeply sorry” about what happened to her. “You are a strong, intelligent, and talented young woman,” they added. “No one should ever have their trust and safety violated in such a horrific way.”
Police said another victim has now come forward, and an investigation is underway.
When ChurchLeaders called St. Andrews to request a statement, the person who answered the phone said the church had no comment. The church’s Facebook page has been deactivated. ChurchLeaders also reached out to Oates and will update this article with any response.
