“Sometimes, the church is just too quick to just throw their leaders away,” Vernon said. “And I’m not justifying certain behavior, I’m really not. But for you to make me give up on my pastor, you’re going to have to show me something real.”

As Goines returns to leadership at Koinonia Christian Church, interim pastor James Ray Taylor has resigned. Taylor had been the church’s executive pastor before assuming leadership in the wake of Goines’ arrest.

According to WFAA, Taylor said on social media that Goines and other church staff members asked him to leave.

The date of Goines’ next hearing has not been publicly announced.
