Kristen Ivy Claims Reggie Joiner Is Guilty of ‘Clergy Sexual Abuse’
A month after Orange made the public aware of Joiner and Ivy’s “inappropriate” relationship, Ivy claimed that she was a victim of “clergy sexual abuse.”
In an email Ivy sent to Manby and board member Jennifer Barnes, Ivy explained that after seeking “professional counsel, experts in abuse, and [listening] to the stories of other survivors, I now realize I am experiencing a high level activated trauma—not just from the past weeks, but also compounded trauma from many years of emotional and psychological abuse.”
Amending her original statement, which described her relationship with Joiner as “inappropriate,” Ivy told Manby and Barnes:
I believe you were able to see—even before I was able to name it—that the nature of the relationship between Reggie and myself was not truly capable of having meaningful consent. What I said was true, that the relationship between Reggie and myself was inappropriate, but I am now aware that this is not the best framing for understanding the nature of what took place. The truth is that Reggie has repeatedly abused his power and used it to gain access to vulnerable, often very young women, slowly crossing boundaries, isolating them, and eventually coercing them into agreeing to the abuse. The very nature of these relationships is to confuse a victim into believing what is happening is consensual, and it can take years of separation from the abuser for the victim to recognize the abuse. I have been separated from Reggie for less than a week, but I am aware that these patterns are abusive and not consensual.

Not long after Ivy sent her email, Orange told its staff that it would be retaining a law firm to conduct a third-party investigation into Ivy’s complaints. ChurchLeaders reached out to the Amazing Life Foundation inquiring about the investigation and was informed that the ReThink Board will work to finish the investigation.
“Orange has moved under the umbrella of the Amazing Life Foundation, a non-profit organization,” chief marketing officer Ryan Moore said. “The ReThink Group Board will continue to work to finish the investigation it started and share what it learns so that other organizations might benefit. This will allow Orange and our team a fresh start.”
Orange’s 2025 annual conference will take place April 29–May 1 in Atlanta and will feature speakers Jon Acuff, John Onwuchekwa, Sissy Goff and David Thomas, Ryan Leak, and others. Amazing Life Foundation said that more details regarding the future of Orange will be shared during the conference.
