Hibbs had the congregation stand and join him in facing a camera. They all pointed at the camera while Hibbs said, “Steve, we are asking you to run for governor of California so that you can get this ship righted. And we want you to run and we want you to have your policies implemented.” The congregation applauded and began chanting Hilton’s name before Hibbs said, “Ok, that’s enough.”

“We think the houses of faith should help you,” said Hibbs, still talking to Hilton through the camera. “Churches should get involved to help in crisis like this. And by the way, while I’m at it, Karen Bass should be removed from office today,” the pastor said as the congregation cheered.

Hibbs went on to express his view that the “colonial fathers” would hang Bass if they were alive today, eliciting applause from the congregants.

Next, Hibbs said that “Rick Caruso needs to run for mayor of Los Angeles again.” Caruso is a Democrat who previously lost the L.A. mayoral race to Bass. The pastor said he has never met Caruso, and Caruso did not know that Hibbs was about to endorse him.

“Again, you say Jack, he’s a Democrat,” said Hibbs. “You know what? He’s a Democrat who loves L.A. and he’s not Karen Bass.”

“Just to show you that I’m no bigot,” said Hibbs, “Steve, I think’s a Republican, and Caruso’s a Democrat. There, I’m super fair, aren’t I?”

“Listen, California is my home, born and raised here. Probably be dying here,” Hibbs said. “I will not back down from a fight. I’m not going to run for office—never—but I will support those with blood, sweat and tears and money if necessary, to get the right people elected.”

“Because the Bible says when the righteous are in power, the people rejoice,” said Hibbs. “But when the wicked rule, the people groan…It’s time for us to do something.”
