Church leaders are also considering that with the new Trump administration, “there’s going to be evangelicals everywhere.” Rigney noted that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is part of the CREC.

Rigney said that the church is not “power-hungry” but does have a goal of being close to power. “The alternative is Paula White,” he said, stating that it doesn’t make sense for people to complain about Paula White but offer no one else as a different option. Rigney said that with Wilson and Christ Church gaining a higher profile in culture, the church wanted to steward that influence well.
