One of Michael Tait’s accusers, who went by “Abraham” in articles published by The Roys Report (TRR) and The Guardian, has identified himself as Darren King.

Editor’s note: This article refers to reports of alleged sexual assault that some readers might find triggering and/or disturbing.

King, who is the former drummer for Earthsuit and Mutemath, chose to come forward on video to show support for his friends who are the victims of “Tait’s attacks.” King also shared that while he was once a Christian, he has since left the faith.

On Jan. 16, Michael Tait abruptly announced that he was leaving Newsboys. Since then, he has been accused of grooming, sexually assaulting, and drugging young men—including minors—as well as of watching a young woman be raped in 2014.

Darren King Claims Tait Made Him Feel ‘Uncomfortable’

“My story is by far the least severe of anyone’s mentioned,” King said. King had previously shared that his experience began when he and his former Mutemath bandmate Paul were invited to have dinner with Tait.

King shared that he was “so excited to get to meet one of my childhood heroes” but claims that the situation quickly took a turn. Within the “first four or five minutes of the conversation,” King said, Tait, “in a really forced way, found a way to stroke my ear and put his hand on my leg.” King said these actions made him feel “uncomfortable.”

King said that this experience was “thankfully” the last time King ever spoke to Tait.

King shared that 10 years after his dinner with Tait, “a dear friend of mine confided in me a story of actual sexual assault [by Tait] that took place at Michael Tait’s house.”

“Years went by and I heard other rumors. More just rumors of his constant partying and debauchery, not of assault,” King added. Then about five months ago, King’s friend Israel Anthem shared with King that Tait had allegedly exposed himself to Anthem in a public bathroom. Anthem was 13 years old at the time.

“I’ve known [Israel] since 1997,” King informed his social media followers. “I used to work for his parents…I never knew that story until this year, and I was heartbroken to hear it but glad that somebody was actually doing the work of investigative journalism to start to bring all of this in the light.”
