Christian artist Tauren Wells agreed to step in for David Crowder and play a concert at the Shenandoah County Fair Friday, Aug. 29. Crowder is still recovering from a broken leg and subsequent surgery. Wells, however, did more than deliver a concert—he stopped the show to pray for Crowder and his recovery.

“I almost didn’t do this for fear of being misunderstood—but when God puts something on our hearts, the only answer is yes,” said Wells.

Fans come to a concert for the live music and crowd experience. Rarely do they expect the show to stop abruptly. But concertgoers at the Shenandoah County Fair experienced just that. After a headliner change, Tauren Wells, who stepped in for Crowder, took a moment to lead the crowd in prayer for Crowder’s healing.

This isn’t the first time Wells has stopped a show to pray for an injured brother in Christ. When Forrest Frank broke his back and endured a painful recovery, Wells prayed for Frank at a concert.

Last month, Crowder broke his leg, requiring emergency surgery to implant plates and screws. With a grin, he said, “I’m not near as athletic as I thought I was.” He had to miss a few shows, including the one at the Shenandoah County Fair, though he expected to “be out there as soon as possible” and to be “new and improved.”

“This was supposed to be Crowder’s show,” explained Wells as he mentioned the honor of stepping in. “I almost didn’t do this for fear of being misunderstood—but when God puts something on our hearts, the only answer is yes.”

Wells stopped the show in an attempt to be “encouraging to Crowder” and to lead attendees in a prayer for healing.

“Crowder, this is for you, my brother,” Wells began.

He then prayed for Crowder specifically. Wells said that he and all those in attendance were “standing in the gap for our friend, David.” He prayed for God “to move into the place where [Crowder] is right now” and “accelerate the healing in his leg.”

“That doctors would be astonished and that the world would be made aware that you are alive and that you do miracles,” continued Wells.

“We don’t stand on our own strength or ability,” Wells prayed. “There’s nothing special or unique about the words that we’re speaking. It’s the faith to believe that you’re able to do this, God.”
