Even before Hurricane Helene made landfall in the United States, near Tallahassee, Florida, on Thursday (Sept. 26), faith-based disaster groups were on the move.

Last weekend, nearly 6,000 fans of the hit series "The Chosen" gathered together at The Chosen Insiders Conference, or better known as ChosenCon, in Orlando, Florida.

Disgraced former pastor J.D. Hall, who was disqualified from ministry in 2022, has been found guilty of felony embezzlement. Earlier this month, a Montana judge handed down the ruling in Richland County District Court.

A former youth pastor has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple child sex abuse crimes. Marvin Scales, 53, of Waxahachie, Texas, is not eligible for parole and will be required to serve the entire sentence. 

An earlier plan to partner with a music school with ties to a conservative Catholic donor fell through. The new lease, if approved, could help GTS through a fiscal crisis.

The building, built in 1923, was funded entirely by women.

At its 2024 synod in June, the Christian Reformed Church instructed LGBTQ-affirming congregations to repent and comply with the denomination’s beliefs on sexuality. Some are now choosing to leave.
