It’s Been One Year Since the Passing of America’s Pastor

Billy Graham death

Where were you when Billy Graham died?

On February 21, 2018, Evangelist Billy Graham died. He preached the Gospel to more people in human history, was a spiritual advisor to Presidents, and was iconic in the fabric of American life.

There are certain events that mark us. We remember where we were when we hear shocking news. Such was the case for the assignation of John F Kennedy, the OJ Simpson car chase, and the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The death of Billy Graham marked our nation. It signaled the end of an era and the beginning of a new. His funeral was that of a President. In many ways, he was more influential than the presidents he so often advised.

He was a man marked by a simple message. That message was Jesus. His mantle passed to no man or ministry but his mandate was passed to all believers. The Great Commission mandate that all followers of Christ have been tasked with. It is the cause of all causes. When it comes to sharing the Gospel, where are you? Do you tell others of Jesus Christ? Do you pray for opportunities to tell the good news?

“My one purpose in life is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which, I believe, comes through knowing Christ.”- Billy Graham

Leaders React to the Passing of Billy Graham

“The GREAT Billy Graham is dead. There was nobody like him! He will be missed by Christians and all religions. A very special man.”- President Donald J. Trump

“Billy Graham was a humble servant who prayed for so many—and who, with wisdom and grace, gave hope and guidance to generations of Americans.”- President Barack Obama

“Billy Graham was not only a titanic figure in evangelicalism, but in world history and perhaps represents the last of a kind. He dominated 20th century American evangelicalism and remained a major figure on the world stage throughout most of the 20th century in a way that we can envision no evangelical leader in our times.”- Al Mohler

“You showed us how to leave the 99 for the 1. Thank you, Dr. Graham. Rest in Peace.”- Steven Furtick

Billy Graham’s Legacy Lives On

Franklin Graham, Billy’s son, said he thinks about his father every day since he passed. Still, the eternal hope that spurred his father on to reach people with the Gospel lives on in his descendants. Today, Franklin rejoices in the fact that his father is in God’s presence.

So where were you when Billy Graham died and where are you now?
