Southern Baptist Convention presidential candidate Pastor Mike Stone says that “one of the first things” he would do as the denomination’s president is appoint a new sex abuse reform task force.

Georgia pastor Mike Stone announced on Wednesday that he intends to accept a nomination for president of the Southern Baptist Convention at the denomination’s annual meeting in June. 

Georgia pastor and former SBC Executive Committee chairman Mike Stone has been accused of helping cover up the misconduct of another Georgia pastor. Stone denies the allegations. 

Mike Stone has voluntarily withdrawn his defamation lawsuit against Russell Moore in which he was seeking $750,000. A judge dismissed the complaint without prejudice, leaving the door open for Stone to come back to the court with the complaint at a later time, should he choose.  

Since news broke that Mike Stone is suing Russell Moore for $750k, many have been debating the ethics of one Christian bringing a lawsuit against another.

Mike Stone is seeking $750K in damages from former ERLC president Russell Moore in defamation lawsuit, claiming that leaked letters penned by Moore cost Stone the SBC presidency.

The news comes after Mike Stone, one of the EC members accused of mishandling sexual abuse allegations, lost the SBC presidential race—and had a controversial exchange with survivor Hannah-Kate Williams. 

Pastor Ed Litton narrowly edged out Pastor Mike Stone to become the new President of the SBC. Litton addressed the issues regarding CRT, women leadership, and sexual abuse within the SBC at his press conference.
