Excuses just don’t hold sway when it comes to evangelism. Jesus calls all his followers to share the good news of the gospel. Age is no factor; teens are some of the best evangelists out there!

So if you hear any of the common excuses below, push back. Then encourage children, youth, and adults to tell others about Jesus and his love.

10 Excuses for Not Telling Others About Jesus

1.  I don’t have the gift of evangelism.

Yeah, well, I don’t have the gift of mercy. But I still should show it (Proverbs 14:21)!

2.  I don’t know any lost people.

If A = B and B = C, then A = C. If we want to be like Jesus and Jesus was a friend of sinners (Matthew 11:19) then we must be friends of sinners too. Get in proximity to the lost, make friends and then reach them.

3.  That’s the preacher’s job.

Ephesians 4:11-12 tells us, “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ …”

We pay our preachers to get us to do the work.

4.  That’s the evangelist’s job.

See point #3.

5.  I don’t know what to say.

So many evangelism tools are available today that this should not be an excuse. For immediate help, download these two faith-sharing apps and call me in the morning. (Actually, call an unchurched friend!)

6.  I share the gospel with my life, not my lips.

Then you’re like an airplane with one wing. God calls us to do both!

7.  I don’t want people to reject me!

Here’s what Jesus said about that. “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me” (Luke 10:16).
