In a recent social media comment, “Hard Fought Hallelujah” singer Jelly Roll questioned Forrest Frank’s motives for not attending award shows.
On Monday, Oct. 6, the eve of the 56th Annual Dove Awards, Frank told his 6.2 million Instagram followers that he would not be attending any future award shows.
Frank’s reasoning was that he has already received an “eternal” trophy that doesn’t compare to a “metal” trophy.
Frank shared, “I’m convicted, personally, that a line that I can draw is that I will not receive a trophy for something that is from Jesus and for Jesus, and I was wrestling with this last year.”
“The trophy is that my name is listed in the Book of Life, and I get to have eternal life. What good is a piece of metal going to do compared to that,” Frank added.

Frank has been nominated for seven 2025 Dove Awards, including Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.
Jelly Roll, who is a secular award-winning country singer known for his songs “Son of a Sinner,” “Save Me,” and “Need a Favor,” has been nominated for three 2025 Dove Awards for his “Hard Fought Hallelujah” collaboration with Brandon Lake, is scheduled to perform at the Dove Awards.
Jelly Roll commented on Frank’s viral post, pushing back on Frank’s reasoning.
“Won’t receive trophy for something from Jesus for Jesus but will take the profits from something from Jesus for Jesus,” Jelly Roll said. “Maybe I’m missing something here lol.”
Jelly Roll elaborated, “This is an interesting take—I dig it, how do you think this compares as profiting from the same music.”
He then asked, “I love that you said ‘I don’t want to get a trophy for something that’s from Jesus for Jesus’ which is awesome—but also make MILLIONS of dollars doing that same thing that is From Jesus for Jesus.”
