On Tuesday, Nov. 4, “Reckless Love” singer Cory Asbury provided an update for his and Forrest Frank’s alternative Super Bowl halftime show.

A month ago, Asbury proposed the idea of putting on a halftime show as an alternative to what is known as one of the most-watched live music performances of the year.

“What if we did an alternative, family-friendly halftime show for the Super Bowl?” Asbury asked his social media followers on Oct. 4. “Every year, everyone is all up in arms about the performer for the halftime show, and I get it because, nine times out of 10, it’s raunchy as heck.”

Asbury’s announcement came only days after the NFL announced that Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny would perform the 2026 Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show—a coveted 12-15 minute slot that has the potential to be seen by over 100 million viewers.

Bad Bunny is known for his sexually explicit lyrics.

Frank and Asbury recently collaborated on Frank’s song “Misunderstood” following a social media tiff that ended in a new friendship. Frank quickly showed his support for the halftime show idea and has joined Asbury in making the alternative halftime show a reality.

Yesterday, Asbury explained that the idea that began as a “soft launch” about a month ago has gone completely viral with people responding in favor of his proposed alternative. Following Asbury’s announcement in October, Turning Point USA (TPUSA), a conservative nonprofit political organization whose founder, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated on Sept. 10, also announced “The All American Halftime Show.” No location nor artists have been announced, but TPUSA has promoted an event that will celebrate “faith, family, and freedom.”

Asbury shared that he and Frank met with the TPUSA team but ultimately decided to part ways, saying the two visions were “incompatible.” Asbury said that he posted his latest video to provide clarity as to why, as well as what their halftime show will look like.

“So about a month ago, Forrest and I soft launched this idea of an alternative halftime show. People loved it. It took off. It went viral quickly. [It] seemed like there was a desire for something like this,” Asbury said.

He continued, “In the midst of that, Turning Point USA announced their own alternative halftime show, no venue, no artist. But they said, ‘Hey, we’re doing this.’ So in the spirit of unity, Forrest and I jumped on a call with their team to talk it through.” Asbury shared that the conversation was a “productive, amicable discussion,” but they came to the realization that “at the end of the day, the two visions are just incompatible.”
