Director and writer Jon Gunn (“The Case for Christ,” “Ordinary Angels,” “House of David“) brings the true story of Scott and Teresa LeRette to the silver screen with “The Unbreakable Boy.”
This Kingdom Story Company and Lionsgate film follows members of the LeRette family as they wrestle with their faith, marriage, and parenting. “The Unbreakable Boy” will inspire viewers as they watch the LeRettes navigate their son’s autism and brittle bone disease while Scott grapples with addiction.
“The Unbreakable Boy” stars Zachary Levi (“Shazam!,” “Chuck,” “Tangled,” “Thor: The Dark World”), Patricia Heaton (“Everybody Loves Raymond,” “The Middle”), Jacob Laval, Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus”), and Drew Powell (“Gotham,” “Ordinary Angels“). It is produced by Kevin Downes, Jon Erwin, Jerilyn Esquibel, Peter Facinelli, and Andrew Erwin.
Heaton, Levi, Gunn, Downes, and others spoke with ChurchLeaders during the film’s red carpet premiere in New York on Wednesday (Feb. 19).

Heaton, who plays Scott’s mother in the film, said that her life as a mother of boys helped prepare her for her role in “The Unbreakable Boy” and shared that the story of the film is an important, relatable message for Americans today.
“This particular issue affects so many Americans, and we’re becoming a society that’s more understanding and more inclusive of kids who have learning differences around the spectrum and that’s a really great thing,” Heaton said.
“And when my kids were little, I realized they all learn differently, and they need different types of teaching,” Heaton added. “And I know that’s hard when you have big classrooms, but I think teachers and schools are becoming more aware of how to how to include everybody.”
Levi encouraged people to go see this film because it’s not only “fantastic,” but it “highlights the human condition and humanity and the ups and the downs and going through the darkness to find redemption.”
“[It highlights] the life we’ve been given and surrendering to that—finding love and peace and joy on the other side and seeing the lessons we can find in our children,” Levi continued.

“It’s a beautiful film,” Levi added, “and I think it will resonate with anybody.”
