What does a better church experience look like? It's easy to think that the answer is growing bigger. But the truth is, people want to attend and serve at a church where they can experience being loved by the God who made them.

People criticize pastors. It's just how it goes. But understanding why they do so can help us deal with criticism better. Here are seven reasons why church people criticize pastors, as well as suggestions for how to respond.

The only difference between anger and danger is the letter “D.” This is especially true for an angry pastor. Over the past three decades, I have encountered several pastors with anger issues. The stories never ended well.

Pause and pay attention to God’s grace in your life. That is the pathway to joy. That is the motivating power of grace.

If I know anything, I know that leadership is hard. I have a hard time leading myself, let alone being a catalyst for others to grow, get plugged in and develop. Sometimes I wonder, “Why am I qualified or called to be a leader?”

Pursue these qualities in your own life and encourage them in others. Pray for yourself and others. Pray that you will build up the church as faithful and patient members who attend, encourage, confront, pray, and serve.

Even though it's not easy, you can defeat depression. But you don’t need a quick encouragement. You need a God who walks through pain with you.
