2. Buddy Hield

Like Edgecombe, Buddy Hield is also from the Bahamas. To begin his 10th NBA season this week, the 32-year-old posted on X, “Thank God for Life, Health and Strength.”

Hield, a Golden State shooting guard, credits his mother with instilling in him a strong Christian faith. While Hield played college basketball at Oklahoma, mom Jackie Swann sat in the stands and prayed. Her child-rearing philosophy, she told a reporter, was that when her children were old enough to talk, they were old enough to pray.

After entering the NBA, Hield told Sports Spectrum that he reads Psalms before every game. The athlete also attends chapel services with his teammates.

During last season’s playoffs, Hield scored a game-high 33 points—including nine three-pointers—in a Warriors victory. Afterward, he glorified God, saying, “Without him, this would not be possible.”
