Sherrone Moore’s Instagram Bio Says ‘Christ Follower’

Sherrone Moore, 39, was in his second year as Michigan’s head football coach and had been on staff since 2018. Last year, he signed a five-year contract with a base annual salary of $5.5 million. Because the university fired Moore for cause, it won’t have to buy out the rest of his contract.

In Moore’s Instagram bio, the married father of three describes himself as a “Christ follower.” After this week’s firing and arrest, online chatter began about the types of Instagram accounts Moore had been following. They included numerous OnlyFans models and college women; one model claimed Moore had slid into her direct messages.

“This dude is following some questionable accounts,” someone commented. “Yes I looked through his following list.”

The allegations against Moore sparked commentary on social media, including warnings from Christians. Theologian Darrell B. Harrison posted, “As a pastor friend of mine once said, ‘Sin makes you stupid.’ Adultery is never worth what it will surely cost you in the end (Proverbs 5:1-6). Sherrone Moore is finding that out in real-time.”

Harrison urged people to “pray for Moore, his wife, his children, the (alleged) adulteress, and everyone involved,” adding, “This situation is as ugly as the sin that caused it.”

Commentator Jon Root also weighed in. “Sherrone Moore presented himself as a faithful ‘Christ follower’ & ‘Husband’, but was living like a heathen,” he wrote. “This should be a warning to onlookers that not everyone that claims Christ actually lives for Him.” Root continued:

It should also be a warning to men that sexual temptation, watching porn, lusting in any sense, left unchecked, is like a prowling lion that will overcome & devour you, eventually. “But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.” James 1:14-15

Sherrone Moore was publicly following OnlyFans models, college chicks, & other accounts that was unbecoming as someone who claims to be a Christian, & was adulterous within itself. If I could talk to Sherrone Moore, I would encourage him to read the story of David committing adultery with Bathsheba, and then tell him to prayerfully read Psalm 51, which is David crying out to the Lord for forgiveness.

Despite the “consequences for Sherrone’s egregious sins,” Root wrote, “there is grace to be found through our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, following true and honest repentance.” He encouraged prayers for Moore’s wife and children.
