During a year-end podcast episode, former NFL quarterback Brett Favre expounded on a Christmas post about honoring Jesus. The 56-year-old Hall of Fame QB, a Roman Catholic, is known for on-field achievements as well as off-the-field controversies. But Favre said although he’s not perfect, he’s “trying to fight the good fight.”

On the Dec. 29 episode of “4th & Favre,” the three-time NFL MVP talked to co-host David Kano about football, health, blessings, and faith. Favre, who revealed in 2024 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, said he’s still in the early stages of the disease.

Despite challenges with dexterity, Favre told Kane, “I’m very blessed and thankful.” Gratitude is the “thought echoing all the time” as 2026 begins, the athlete said.

Brett Favre Urges People To Put Their Faith in Jesus

Last month in a Christmas Day post, NFL great Brett Favre wrote:

For more than 20 years I put my hands up in celebration on the gridiron. Now, I put my hands up to the One that gave me all my talents and abilities—the King of my life, Jesus Christ. I’ve never claimed to be perfect, but my aim is for the direction of my life to honor Christ and I pray my faith increases. So I do want to wish you all a Merry Christmas…and if you haven’t done so, put your faith in Him who can save, Jesus Christ.

Favre concluded with the words of Ephesians 2:8-9. His Christmas message now has more than 2 million views.

When podcast co-host David Kano asked about that post, Favre explained, “The misconception is that when you become a Christian that you never have problems again. You never face sin…And that’s…not true.” He continued:

If anything, there’s a bullseye on your back, bigger than ever and brighter than ever when you become a Christian. And you’re going to fail. I have fallen. I have made mistakes. And our God is a forgiving God. He’s a God of mercy, grace, love. Thank God, because I’m a work in progress. But that doesn’t mean I’m not a Christian. It means I strive to be better each and every day.

During his NFL career, Favre battled substance abuse, was investigated for allegedly sending inappropriate messages, and faced a welfare-fund scandal in Mississippi. On his Dec. 29 podcast, Favre said he’s “certainly not better than anyone else,” adding, “because I played pro football doesn’t mean a hill of beans to Jesus and doesn’t place me on a pedestal over the next person.”

About his faith journey, the former QB said, “I’m just like everyone else. I’m trying to fight the good fight. And some days I think I got it, and other days I realize I don’t have it. So that’s kind of where I am.”
