4. CJ Stroud, Houston Texans
The Texans are another AFC contender that got hot when it counted most. The 12-5 team is led by C.J. Stroud, who was named the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year. As ChurchLeaders has reported, the former Ohio State player, now 24, regularly praises Jesus at the beginning of interviews.
Stroud, who faced numerous challenges while growing up, credits God with providing “opportunities to grow from.” The QB said he wouldn’t have made it to the NFL without Jesus, adding that God can “change my story and use it to change others.”
5. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Quarterback Josh Allen, the reigning NFL MVP, has led the Bills to the playoffs for seven straight seasons but never made it to the Super Bowl. The 29-year-old described having a “spiritual awakening” after teammate Damar Hamlin almost died during a January 2023 game. “To see what’s transpired here, it’s a crazy, crazy feeling,” Allen said after Hamlin’s health scare. “It’s something I’ve never felt before.”

The QB told podcaster Kyle Brandt he hadn’t been “the most devoted Christ-follower…but something got a hold of me there and it was extremely powerful that, you know, I couldn’t deny it.” Allen and his wife, actress Hailee Steinfeld, are expecting their first child.

6. Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
In the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks earned the No. 1 seed—and a first-round bye—thanks to a 14-3 record. At quarterback for the NFC West champs is Sam Darnold, who’s been with five teams during eight years in the NFL. The 28-year-old attributes his athletic success to his supportive family and his Christian faith.
Due to a family history of addiction, Darnold also works to stay on the straight and narrow, serving as an example for teammates and fans. Grandfather Mike Darnold says of the quiet QB, “I can tell you that we will never read about Sam on TMZ.”
