‘You Gotta Have Faith,’ Says Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Amid the confetti-filled celebrations, other Seahawks also took time to praise God. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, this season’s Offensive Player of the Year, told reporters, “You gotta have faith. You gotta believe in God. You’ve gotta give it to him.”

Smith-Njigba, who had to be evaluated for a possible concussion during Sunday’s game, said Christians will “get battle-tested” and face lots of ups and downs. His advice? “Stand tall…never waver…Your faith has to be there.”

Seahawks defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence began a post-game interview by asking if his wife, who’s 37 weeks pregnant, was in labor. After being assured that all was well, the longtime Dallas player said, “Man, what an amazing ride. All glory goes to God.”

Before Sunday’s big game, Seahawks team chaplain Jonathan Rainey shared a final message of encouragement with players. His devotional topic was “pressing in and trusting Christ when [life is] uncomfortable,” he told the Sports Spectrum podcast. Rainey emphasized to the team that Jesus, “our true north,” provides true peace, joy, healing, restoration, and renewal.
